"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light." — 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV)
Israel was called to be a holy nation — visibly different, not for pride but for witness. The New Testament applies the same logic to the church. What does it mean for a woman to be set apart in 2026?
Holy Means Set Apart
The Hebrew word for holy (קָדוֹשׁ, qadosh) means set apart, consecrated, distinct. God did not call Israel to be better than other nations in a prideful sense. He called them to be different — to live by a different standard, to worship a different God, to reflect a different glory.
A Peculiar People
Peter's phrase "peculiar people" (λαὸς εἰς περιποίησιν, laos eis peripoiesin) means a people for God's own possession — a treasured people. The word "peculiar" in 1611 English did not mean strange. It meant belonging exclusively to someone. You are God's own.
Being set apart is not a burden. It is an identity. You belong to God — and that changes everything.
